    Georg Malin (b. 1926)

    Liechtenstein

Georg Malin is an artist from Liechtenstein whose practice includes sculpture, drawing, watercolour and stamp design. Born in Mauren in 1926, he trained as a sculptor while studying history, art history, archaeology and philosophy. His artistic work forms part of a wider contribution to the country's cultural life. He was also the first curator of the Liechtenstein State Art Collection.

    Biography

Georg Malin studied in Zürich and Fribourg from 1947 to 1952, alongside sculptural training in Zürich. He began working as an independent artist in the 1950s and later established his practice in Mauren. His output includes sculptures in bronze, stone and steel, as well as drawings and watercolours. Stamp design provided another setting for the relationship between image, scale and public communication: he designed more than one hundred stamps for Liechtenstein. Malin also helped shape the country's collecting institutions. As the first curator of the State Art Collection, he supported a focus on international modern and contemporary art. These parallel activities make his work relevant both to the visual culture of Liechtenstein and to the development of its public art collection.
